First Steps

I think we can officially say that today was the day Everett took his first steps. They were very tentative and quite wobbly, but he definitely moved about a foot across the room without holding onto anything. I will do my best to have the camera ready the next few days so I can capture this exciting time as he starts learning to walk. He's been standing unassisted very well for the past week or so ... we knew it wouldn't be long before he took a step or two.

Date Night

David & I went out for a nice dinner last night at "The Grape" on lower Greenville. The food and atmosphere were really great. We've both heard wonderful things about this restaurant which is well known for it's romantic ambiance. It's said to be the place where the most anniversaries, birthdays and wedding proposals are celebrated in the metroplex ... which made it the perfect place to celebrate two anniversaries ... our 2 year wedding anniversary and also our company's 4 year anniversary!
It's not very often that we get dressed for a night out, so we had to get a picture.

Bert & Ernie

Everett sure likes Sesame Street! The Cookie Monster and the Count always make him smile and laugh out loud. Today I found him getting up close & personal with Ernie. He also discovered he can climb today. My "things" used to be safe on the desk and counters .... no longer the case!

Our Ocean View

These are a few of the pictures taken from the back deck of our purple beach house. We spent many hours on the deck enjoying the view and the ocean breeze. I sure am missing that nice breeze now that we're back in Texas where the heat index this week has been 110 degrees. Uhg!

Our Beach Homes

Since there were over 40 of us at our family reunion, Aunt Willa found us five homes on the beach to accomodate us. (Thanks Aunt Willa!) They were all beautiful with incredible views. David, Everett and I stayed in the purple house.

Fishing

On Monday morning, David & Les got up early to join my Uncle Dale, Tad and Chris on a 6 hour guided fishing tour of the backwaters. They had a great time and caught some big ones! These are a a few of Uncle Dale's pictures.

First time on the beach

As soon as we arrived at our beautiful home on the beach, David and Les couldn't wait to get their feet in the sand ... and Everett's too! These are the very first pictures of E experiencing the beach.

Home Again

We returned last night from a wonderful vacation and family reunion in the Isle of Palms. The trip did end with some frustration as we were bumped from our return flight and had to spend more time in the airport and on the plane than we'd planned. (never a good thing when traveling with an infant!) We were given travel vouchers and first class seats on our new flight ... but the delays did make for a very long day. E was so tired he could barely keep his eyes open, but he had trouble getting comfortable enough to fall asleep on a lap. Thank goodness he finally fell asleep on the last leg of our trip home. We received lots of compliments on what a good baby he was on the plane. :) He also traveled very well on his first flight. It helped to have Leslie on the plane so there were three of us to entertain him. Here he is on his first plane ride: And here he is sitting so nicely watching Classical Baby while we waited at the Charleston airport for a flight home.
As you can imagine, I have a gazillion pictures from our trip to share so I'll try to post a little more about our vacation each day this week. In the meantime, I'll be adding most of our pictures (mine & other family members) to the Holmer family pictures site - www.holmer.shutterfly.com Check back periodically as it will take me a while to get them all uploaded!

First Plane Ride

Everett will have his first plane ride tomorrow. I'm a little nervous about trying to keep him entertained for 2 1/2 hours. We bought a portable DVD player and are hopeful this will keep his attention for part of the trip. E's a very happy baby, but like most (almost) ten month olds, he's always on the move and does not like to sit still for very long.

We are going to Isle of Palms, SC for our family reunion. This will be E's first time to meet his Holmer family. I'm really looking forward to the trip. I can't wait to see his expression when he discovers the ocean and beach for the first time. I'm also very excited that Leslie will be able to join us for most of the trip. I know she'll have a great time with the Holmer Clan ... who wouldn't?!?!

It may be a little while before I can add a new post ... but I'm sure you can count on plenty of new pictures when I do!

Until then, here are a few pictures from E's photo shoot last week.

Have a great weekend ... Bye Bye!

Happy Anniversary

It's hard to believe it was 2 years ago today that we were married!

It was fun to watch our wedding video highlights and reminisce about our wedding day.

Happy Anniversary, David. Thanks for the best two years of my life so far! Mmmmahhh!

Happy 4th of July!

We spent an enjoyable weekend at the Lake with the Rankins celebrating the holiday. Everett had his first dip in the lake. As much as he's enjoyed water in the past, we thought this would be the highlight of his weekend .... not quite the case. He was not a happy camper, to say the least. We think the life vest was just too awkward and uncomfortable for him. I've put a few of the pictures below, and more are posted on our picture site.

Once he dried off, we put him in a large inflated tube on the dock to play ... he enjoyed this much more than getting in the lake.

He also enjoyed playing in the kayak...

And playing with the puppy and the garden hose ...

We enjoyed a weekend of good food, good company, two great firework shows, the live entertainment of Daniel & Grant's band, and of course, the beautiful surroundings of Ray & Brenda's home. We drove back Monday night so we could get some rest and spend our anniversary at home.
