15 month checkup

Everett had his 15 month check up yesterday (which was actually closer to a 16 month checkup). He was much more impatient in the waiting room than he's been in the past. I let him out of his stroller while we waited ... I was really worn out from chasing him by the time we made it to the exam room!

He weighed in at 25.8 lbs (50-75 percentile) and measured 31.75" tall (70th percentile). Dr. Katz said he's growing perfectly. He is still performing a few months ahead of his age and the doc said he was much more cooperative during the exam than most boys his age. (Ha - if he'd seen him in the waiting room!) He now has 7 teeth on top ... I didn't realize he'd gotten in two molars on top ... that explains some recent fussiness ... the doc said those are tough ones since there are 4 prongs on each to break through. He has a 3rd tooth coming in on the bottom.

Dr. Katz said it's time to start implementing some discipline at home. He said this is the age to start using "time-outs". I'll have to pull out the time-out stool from the closet his Aunt Jenny gave him last Christmas. He said to give him one warning, then take him to the time-out spot. I will, of course, have to sit there with him so he'll stay and do this for about 20 seconds. He said to keep doing this ... it will probably take 18 or 20 times ... and eventually he should get bored with this and not do whatever it is he's not supposed to do. It all sounds incredibly exhausting to me ... but I know if we do it now, it will save a lot of frustration in the future. Or could it be that my child is perfect and won't need discipline? Wishful thinking. :)

Everett received three shots - 2 included 3 different vaccines and then he got his flu booster shot. He was pretty upset and there were tears. His bravery was rewarded by the nurse with a plastic squeaky frog and the tears quickly subsided. We got home and both ended up napping most of the afternoon ... I guess the doctor's visit wore us both out!
