We were headed to Mark & Helen’s baby shower yesterday afternoon. Everett looked so cute in his new Rugby shirt, jeans and tennis shoes. He had been so happy all morning and was making some pretty silly faces. As mentioned in a previous post, he was sick earlier last week, but seemed to be feeling 100% again. His teachers even commented on Friday about how happy he was and how they enjoyed having him back at school. (I kept him home on Wednesday.) So we were ready to take our happy kid to a baby shower when we suddenly heard some awful noises coming from the back of the car. We still aren’t sure if E was still suffering the after effects of his tummy bug, was car sick, or possibly ate something that didn’t agree with him. Regardless, the results were NOT PRETTY! I will spare you all the very icky details. However, we did learn a few things and made a few observations / discoveries which I’ll share will you now…
1. ALWAYS keep a roll of paper towels in the trunk of your car. An entire package of wet wipes and some old towels are also good to have on hand.
2. ALWAYS have a change of clothes for your little one handy. (And one for you doesn’t hurt too!)
3. People don’t seem to notice when you are stopped in the middle of a residential street, car running, with a half naked baby on your hip, as your husband is gagging and trying his best to clean off a car seat just enough so you can strap your baby back in to take him home.
4. Your family doesn’t seem to mind when you phone and tell them you might not make it to their scheduled function because your baby is getting sick all over the place … they’d rather you tell them this on the phone than by demonstrating it with your child in person!
5. In order to take off our car seat cover (The Evenflo Eddie Bauer edition), a Phillips head screw driver and a college degree in engineering are required.
6. Nothing says “I LOVE YOU” more than a Mom and Dad covered in puke, but completely oblivious to it because they just want their baby to feel better.
